You can speed up your computer boot up using msconfig. You can disable the splash screen (the windows logo at the startup) and other startup programs and service using msconfig, an inbuilt windows system configuration utility.

Note* Changing start up programs and services must be done by an experienced user as undesired changes can cause serious system issues.

You can access the msconfig by

click on Start, then Run for XP or Start Search in Vista , type msconfig in the search box, and then hit the Enter key.

This command will load the System Configuration Utility program or click msconfig.exe after search has finished. In the application you can see boot and startup tabs, on these tabs follow the instructions below.

  • click the Boot tab check the checkbox next to /NOGUIBOOT to disable splash screen on boot up
  • click the Startup tab and uncheck any check boxes on any program that you do not want automatically starting up on windows bootup
  • click the Services tab and uncheck any check boxes on any service that you do not want automatically starting up on windows bootup

Note* please do not change any services that you are not exactly sure about, this can cause serious system startup problems, get anexperienced user to help if unsure
