To change a network location type Print

If you want to enable your computer for file and printer shring and turn on the network discovery, you will may need to change the the network type from the Network and Sharing Center.


1.       Log on to the network.


2.      Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Network and Sharing Center.


3.1     On Vista -
Click Customize, and then click either Public (for "Public place" networks) or Private (for "Home" or "Work" networks). Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3.2     On Window 7 -
Click on the Network and then click on Home network (for "Trusted Home" networks) or Work network (for "Trusted Work" networks) or Public network (for "Public Place" networks).

Note* You must select the "Work network" on Windows 7 and "Private" on Vista to establish a local network for file and printer sharing.


4.      Click Next, and then click Close.
