MSSQL Server 2008 Management Studio fails to install on a 64bit Windows 7 system with a Warning "Another version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 has been detected on this system that must be updated to SP1 Please update all Visual Studio 2008 installations to SP1 level, by visiting Microsoft Update."

On a 64bit system you will need to edit the below registry keys to rectify the issue:

To start the registry edit type: regedit in the search bar

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS\Servicing\9.0

ensure the SP and SPIndex values = 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS\Servicing\9.0\VSR\1033

set the SP and SPIndex values = 1 and  SPName SP1,

By default  for some reason these value have been set as:  SP and SPIndex values = 0 and the SPName = RTM.  I changes theese to 1 and SP1 respectively.
